New Disney Springs

October 02, 2015

If you were familiar with Downtown Disney and loved it, you must know that your favorite Disney spot outside the Disney parks was just renamed to Disney Springs! But what changed?

Well, the whole area is getting a makeover! We still don’t know all of the details, because although the re-branding was announced and started in 2013, the project is only expected to be completed in 2016. So, we are sure Disney is still holding on to a few surprises to be announced later!

For now, the renovation includes an increase in dining, shopping and entertainment. Two parking garages were also built to accommodate more vehicles and ease up traffic leading up to Disney Springs. Up until now guests had to take the Lake Buena Vista exit from I-4 and that created huge traffic jams during busier nights and special holidays.  With the construction of the garages there will be an exit ramp straight from I-4 into Disney Springs, so that should help improve traffic and cut out commute times! Best news is parking will remain free!

The complex will house 150 shops 30 restaurants that include new Morimoto Asia and The Boathouse. The area will be divided into four outdoor districts that will be connected by a spring. Town Center, The Landing, West Side and Marketplace will all have different looks since they were inspired by different times and places.

Here’s a little bit about what each new area has to offer:

  • Town Center: A complete new area that will include a lot of shopping opportunities with the opening of new stores like Pandora, Zara and L’Occitane en Provence.
  • West Side: The existing area has La Nouba by Cirque du Solei, House of Blues, Characters in Flight, AMC Movie Theater and Splitsville Luxury Lanes as its main attractions.
  • The Landing: former Pleasure Island will count with nice restaurants like Fulton’s Crab House and The Boathouse.
  • Marketplace: This area will include quick service restaurants like Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop and Earl of Sandwich as well as favorite restaurants like The Rainforest Café. The LEGO Imagination Center, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and World of Disney store are some of the fun attractions for this area!
